About This Destination
Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest Park is located in the southern part of the Langkawi archipelago, comprising the main island of Dayang Bunting along with two smaller adjacent islands. The park's centrepiece is Lake Dayang Bunting — a serene freshwater lake surrounded by towering white marble cliffs that were formed over millions of years of geological processes.
According to local legend, the island is associated with the story of the Mermaid Princess who is said to have inhabited the lake together with a giant named Mat Chendering. This tale forms part of the famous 99 Legends of Langkawi, adding a rich cultural layer to the island's natural appeal.
From a natural perspective, the island supports over 80 bird species, making it a popular destination for birdwatching enthusiasts. Visitors can take guided boat tours around the lake, swim in the cool freshwater waters, or explore natural caves such as Gua Hang carved into the marble cliffs.
Facilities on the island include a jetty, guided boats, and camping areas. Visitors are advised to bring sun protection, drinking water, and to follow conservation guidelines to preserve the natural heritage that makes this a UNESCO Global Geopark.
