About This Destination

The Baling Talks Gallery preserves the memory of a pivotal event in the nation's history — the Baling Talks held on 29 and 30 December 1955. The historic meeting between Tunku Abdul Rahman, who was then the Chief Minister of the Federation of Malaya, and Chin Peng, Secretary-General of the Malayan Communist Party, took place at a school in Baling. This negotiation was the final attempt to end the communist insurgency in Malaysia through peaceful dialogue. This gallery was established as a tribute to this crucial moment in Malaysian diplomatic history. Visitors can explore historical materials, photographs, and documents related to the talks. Although the talks did not reach a final agreement, they remain an important symbol of peace-making efforts and the nation's path towards independence. Situated adjacent to Sekolah Kebangsaan Tunku Putra in Kampung Banggol Lada, the gallery is easily accessible to visitors who wish to delve deeper into local history. The visit offers a meaningful experience for all ages, especially students and history enthusiasts. Parking facilities are available in the area near the school. The gallery also serves as a learning centre for younger generations about the importance of peace and national unity. Each exhibit carries significant historical meaning about Malaysia's journey towards independence.
