About This Destination
Bujang Valley Gallery 2 is one of the museum outlets located in Merbok town, Yan District, Kedah. This gallery serves as an extension to the main Bujang Valley Museum and functions as a repository and display space for historical artifacts discovered at the Bujang Valley archaeological site — one of the most significant ancient civilization sites in Malaysia.
Bujang Valley itself encompasses the remains of ancient Hindu-Buddhist temples dating back to the 3rd to 14th century CE. A wide range of artifacts have been found here, including stone gateways, deity sculptures, glass beads, ceramics, and inscriptions on palm leaves — evidence that this area once served as a thriving center of trade and religious activity in ancient times.
The gallery welcomes visitors who wish to explore the history of the Bujang Valley Civilization in greater depth. Exhibits include replica temple models, stone tools, and materials demonstrating the maritime trade connections that linked the Malay Civilization with international traders from India, China, and Southeast Asia.
Visitors are encouraged to also tour the adjacent main gallery for a more comprehensive experience. The best time to visit is during the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. Remember to bring drinking water and wear comfortable clothing when exploring the open-air sites.
