Langkawi to Host APGN 2026 Symposium, Spotlighting Asia-Pacific Geotourism

LANGKAWI – Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark will host the 9th Asia Pacific Geoparks Network (APGN) Symposium from 4 to 12 September 2026 at the Langkawi International Convention Centre (LICC).
Themed "Celebrating Networking in Geotourism" with three pillars — Innovate, Connect, Transform — the symposium gathers international experts, geopark managers, researchers, policymakers and tourism practitioners from across the Asia-Pacific region.
Highlights include plenary sessions, research presentations, thematic workshops, a geopark fair, and field trips to selected geosites around Langkawi, home to rock formations more than 500 million years old.
Langkawi was recognised as Southeast Asia's first UNESCO Global Geopark in 2007, and hosting APGN 2026 further cements the legendary island's position as a regional leader in sustainable geotourism during Visit Malaysia Year 2026.
